Etched Glass with Color

I was asked to etch a contemporary design on a piece of glass that divided two rooms. The glass had previously been etched with a brush stroke but the designer wanted more interest. The new etched pattern did not identify itself against the etching that was already there so I experimented with color to make it stand out. I wanted to maintain transparency so I tried dusting & rubbing on sparkling color pigments and found that they clung nicely to the roughened surface. I sealed it with a spray polycrylic protective finish. Each shape became its own individual painting and the effect was dramatically subtle and beautiful.
